André Tempel
Scissors, 2002-2005 (scissors, thread)

In the work of André Tempel,
thread is only one of numerous industrially manufactured
materials and objects. In the process of artistic transformation,
the artist deprives them of their original functions as useful
objects, combines them in unusual and inventive ways, and invests
them with new functions according to their formal dimensions,
which convince with their pure aesthetic. Tempel's objects are
marked by a pure formal language and a great deal of humour.
In the work entitled Scissors, the composing elements – scissors
and thread – have been stripped of their functions, of their
normal relationship, and the role of the "winner"
was given to the usually "defeated". This artwork
presents a humorous metaphor of the world turned upside down
and, as such, reflects many paradoxes of contemporary society.
