In his work, Claus Föttinger employs thread as an exclusive means of finalising an an artwork. He uses cotton thread to bind photographs and other surfaces into art creations flirting with design and interior decoration. To be more precise, his works for this exhibition have been realised as a chandelier (Gallipoli), a lamp, and an object reminding of furniture (Bedingt Gesprächsbereit). As objects of art with an applied value, they have been included in the exhibition as a Trojan horse. These photographs reflect themes which open up questions about political phenomena (Gallipoli), while their forms – especially in the work Bedingt Gesprächsbereit, which alludes to a seat and a computer "box" featuring sentences of an accidental conversation between a man and a woman – point to social interaction and communication, which nowadays, in the rushed and ambitious time that we live in, can be very banal and inattentive. The work speaks about communication, which is nevertheless urgent for a harmonious, successful and satisfied life in private and in public.

Born in 1960 in Nürnberg (Germany). Between 1979 and 1981 he was an assistant to two advertisement photographers and worked as probationer in set design construction and painting at the Municipal Theatre in Nürnberg. Between 1982 and 1989 he studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and worked as an assistant to Harald Klingelhöller and Katharine Fritsch for the following two years. In 1991 he founded the WP8 art association in Düsseldorf. In 1995 and
1996 he worked as a curator at the Ringenberg castle in Niederrhein (Germany). Since 1996
he works exclusively on his personal projects. He lives and works Düsseldorf and in Wolfheze near Arnheim (the Netherlands).
