Abstract:
In the Pivka commune walking has to a great extent developed as a form of recreation. Many people, individuals and families, visit our intermittent lakes and other water sources especially at the weekends. In the last few years horse breeding has also developed a great deal. Our region with its diverse landscape is very popular among horsemen. Small groups of horse-back riders can be encountered almost every day.
The aim of our paper is not to stimulate massive tourism in these areas, but to arouse the feeling of preservation of the rich, natural beauties that we share.
We are aware of the sensitivity of the karst terrain in which we live. We know that polluting the environment can be deadly for our drinking water sources. In the discussions that we had with elderly people in the preparation of this paper, we became aware of the respect that they had and still have for this good that we call water. They went to great lengths to care for the preservation of the springs and wells, cleaned their surroundings and attended to their regular maintenance. They didn't dump any rubbish in their vicinity.
All this made us think about ways of preserving this wealth that nature has offered us.
We decided to make posters and leaflets with which to draw the attention of as many visitors to this region as possible to the protection of the environment.
We will use the leaflets to help raise attention towards the economical use of drinking water, towards reducing the use of all kinds of chemical substances and the managing of waste. We would hang the posters alongside the already existing tourist information boards in the commune. The leaflets would be available to tourists in several public places: the Museum of Military History, the post office, the bank, the medical centre … They would be distributed to the locals through the post. The content of the leaflets would also be published in the local newspapers, the Notranjsko kraški newspaper and Prestop, as well as on the school's and the commune's websites.
Our tourist paper has been presented on our school webpage; one copy can be found at the Pivka Commune and one is in the possession of the mentors.
