In the time of the expansion of the European Union and admission of the European Constitution we find it important to overcome the boundaries of our own place and culture (local community, country). We can get to know other countries by using information communication technology, by facilitating the learning of foreign languages and by developing intercultural dialogue especially between young people. We wish to stimulate the feeling of active democratic citizenship.
Many opportunities for developing the above mentioned are provided in schools. That is why we think is important for the young people to be aware of their national identity and to achieve this it is essential to learn more about the history of their home town and country. At the same time we should keep in mind that we are a part of a larger concept and have to strive towards getting to know other nations and cultures as well and to develop cultural exchange, dialogue and above all tolerance as one of the general civilisation values.
The use of the information communication technology seems appropriate for learning about other cities and towns in Europe. Our emphasis is on the towns and cities as seen through the eyes of our peers, citizens of other countries.
Rich cultural heritage of our town will be presented through photographs and short comments. Ptuj – the classroom of history.
These facts have led us to the project which is aimed to present our home town through the eyes of peers, citizens of other countries.
