We have to tell you something more about the other very important custom typical for Ptuj namely the ethnological festival – masqueraders with hand carved masks.

Hand - carved mask.

“Korant” is a well-known carnival mask. It is a mighty demonic figure with large bells which is supposed to scare winter away and invite spring to come to the countryside.

In the field of heritage and folklore the Korant carnival in Ptuj is the most picturesque and numerous other towns and villages also display the richness of Slovene Mardi Gras costumes from past centuries.
