Cultural heritage

Ptuj is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia. The Celts lived here and later Romans and Slavs. It has much to offer today too. That is why we thought it would be interesting to present it to the people in other countries as we young people see it.

The Orpheus Monument an almost 5 m high stone block made of marble. This monument today is one of the symbols of the town. A tombstone, dedicated to Markus Aurelius Verus, the mayor of Colonia Ulpia Traiane Petovia (2nd century).

Come and discover it because it is interesting and educational.

The Upper Castle on the hill, numerous building beneath.

…the most beautiful for us is Ptuj…under the fairy-tale castle…which dominates the town...

Upper Castle and Small Castle.

Rich cultural heritage of our town will be presented through photographs and short comments.

Several cultures from the oldest historical periods were exchanged on this small area. Each culture left its own imprint, each contributed to the form of the town we know today. You can travel through time all day in the museum, the castle, churches and galleries. It is unforgettable.

Statue of St. Florjan-detail. The stone saint protected medieval Ptuj from fires.

The town church of St. George from the 12th century was being completed to the 19th century. It is the oldest building in town. In the photograph: South façade of the parish church with tombstones and epitaphs.
