Veliko in hkrati malo potrebuje ambientalna intervencija
za svoj obstoj potem, ko jo ustvarjalec seveda najprej sploh
“položi” v ta svet: primeren prostorski kontekst in aktivnega
gledalca.
in nepredvidljivega dela. Muhavost narave namreč mora v svojem
nenehnem spreminjanju ustvarjalca pozitivno presenečati,
pomeniti izziv in nikakor oviro. Zato tudi odločitev, da
pomladno poletni čas tokrat pripade prav idejam, vizijam
in delu slikarke mlajše generacije, Mateji Kavčič.
Morda se kdo še spomni Matejinega projekta leta 1997 v ljubljanskem
parku Tivoli in odlično vraščenih slik štirih elementov v
naravno
okolje...?
Medtem so nastajala
nova dela, vse do cikla okroglih slik Letnih časov.
v naravi. Tako je začela nastajati Matejina najnovejša umetniška
intervencija.
Slikarka se rada zateka k arhetipski simboliki, Empedoklesov
nauk o štirih neminljivh prasnoveh je zdaj pregnetla oziroma
nadgradila z ikonografijo štirih letnih časov, ki vznemirja
umetnike že skozi vso zgodovino umetnosti in očitno še vedno
junak slikarkinega ustvarjanja, polje intimnega rituala in
meditacije.
poletje
in jesen.
Takšne so njene okrogle slike in takšne so njene instalacije.
Tokrat Mateja niz že nastalih okroglih platen Letnih časov,
prepredenih z rastlinjem v obliki koncentričnih žarčenj in
lastnih posameznim letnim časom, ponovi, a v drugačnem kontekstu.
Obdela jih po principu življenjskega krogotoka. Preslika
njihove detajle, jih sestavi v nova razmerja, skrije robove.
Poruši prvotne meje. Končni print nove podobe prevzema vlogo
svojevrstnega vrta, simbolične spiralne poti, pot neskončnih
ponovitev:
od jedra k jedru - od narave k sebi in nazaj. V Matejinih
Raje večkrat ... ga morda skoraj obredno ponavljati. Kajti
to ne pomeni resničnega vračanja ampak nadgrajevanje, pot
naprej.
menjavajo letni časi in tečejo naša življenja.

ENGLISH
After the creator has ‘brought’ it into this world, ambient
intervention
simultaneously requires much and little for its existence. Simply, perhaps,
an adequate
spatial context and an active spectator. Without that it is dead. It exists,
but doesn’t live.
A basic challenge that artists who undertake such a demanding and unpredictable
work face is to create a correlative field from all those components. Above
all, the
unpredictable temperament of nature in its ceaseless change must positively
surprise the
creator, be a challenge and never an obstacle. Thus it has been decided that
the
spring-summer time belongs this time to the ideas, vision and work of Mateja
Kavčič,
an artist of the younger generation.
Some may still remember Mateja’s 1997 project in Tivoli Park Ljubljana,
which excellently embodied pictures of the four elements. The gallery was the
natural
environment, the floor of which was a meadow and the sky its ceiling. Not since
then
has she undertaken anything similar. Meanwhile, however, new works have taken
shape,
until now ‘Seasons’, a cycle of round pictures. This has attracted attention
and resulted
in an invitation to the author to try as successfully as previously to exchange
a glance
directly at nature. That was how Mateja’s newest artistic project began.
The artist likes to use archetypal symbolism as a resource. Empedocles teaching
about the four imperishable elements is kneaded, or perhaps upgraded, with
the
iconography of the four seasons that have thrilled artists throughout the history
of art
and evidently have not yet been exhausted. In doing so, she has presented nature
in all
its grandeur in her own way. Nature is the main and only hero of the artist’s
creation
throughout her work, and her field of intimate ritual and meditation. She does
not
compete with it, but arises from it, lives in it and returns to it. Thus she,
in her original
way, closes the circle each time anew. It is cyclically the same as time passing
and
with it every winter, spring, summer and autumn. Such are her round pictures
and such
are her installations.
This time, Mateja has repeated a series of already existing round canvases
called ‘Seasons’. These are covered with greenery in the shape of concentric
radials that
are appropriate to particular seasons, although in a different context. She
works on them
under the principle of the cycle of life. She copies their details, incorporating
them in
new relationships, hides the edges, and removes their former boundaries. The
final print
of the new image takes on the role of a unique garden, a symbolic spiral path,
a path of
endless repetitions formed core-to-core from nature to her and back. Cosmic
order rules
Mateja’s work. Everything repeats, but changes.
How to walk through her ‘Garden’? Above all, not just once. Better to do
so more often. Repeat almost ritually. This does not means genuine repetition
but an
upgrade of the path forward. In such a way Mateja creates, nature lives and
last but
not least seasons change and our lives go on. We will definitely never be in
the same
place twice, although it may perhaps seem like this from time to time.
