Afghanistan is the country with the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality in the world, because most of women are illiterate and have no knowledge about birth planning, pregnancy, delivery and mostly in rural areas, hospitals are difficultly accessible.
Unicef published its statistics of the study in 2005: average 1600 maternal deaths on 100.000 live births and 165 newborns on 1000 live births.
The marks on Afghan maternal mortality are twice as bad as in African country Niger, 12-times worse than in neighbouring Iran and 132 higher than in a European country as Slovenia is.
