Dear
Friends!
Slovenia
became a member of the European Union on 1st May, 2004. Even
though it is a very small country in Central Europe, it still
possesses unsurpassed beauty yet to be discovered.
Castles of Europe is an interactive eTwinning project produced
by young Europeans for young Europeans, in order to get to know
their little piece of the European continent better.
Osnovna sola Pivka, Slovenia
twinned up with
IIS Carlo Urbani – Sede Acilia Berlinguer
in Rome, Italy
and are exchanging information and learning about each other's
history. This time
round, through castles. Castles play a major part in a country's
history. Many historical decisions, activities, important battles,
and other events that moulded countries into what they are today,
took place in and around castles. Today most castles in Slovenia
have been turned into museums harbouring artifacts and other
treasures for tourists to see. Some have unfortunately collapsed
into oblivion while others stand idley by, waiting to be noticed
by the cultural eye and hopefully saved. In Slovenia there are
over 50 well-known castles spread all over the country.
We have collected information on five of them and we invite
you to enter our site and have a look. Then test your knowledge
with a short quiz, a crossword and a map quest. This way you
will get to know Slovenia better. Have fun !!
