PTUJ CASTLE
Ptuj
is the oldest city in Slovenia. The hill where Ptuj Castle stands
today was settled already in prehistoric times. The first castle
dates back to the 9th or 10th century. Today a tower from that
time still stands.
Today
Ptuj Castle has become a museum where visitors can see an exhibit
of beautiful tapestries, furniture, paintings and musical instruments
from the 16th to the second half of the 19th century. The Art
gallery offers beautiful examples of Gothic and Baroque art
in Slovenia. One of the best attractions are the traditonal
Carneval costumes and masques of the region including the famous
'Kurent'.
