Semič in Bela krajina


 
 
    When you drive up Partizanka road to the edge of hilly landscape, you are given a view of wonderful Bela Krajina. On its northern part, below the base of Kočevski Rog and hillside of Gorjanci, lies community Semič on 147 km2. Semič with about 700 inhabitants has been a seat of community since 1993. Semič is known after successful businessmen, tradesmen and capacitor factory Iskra, which is a bearer of development in a community.
    In the centre of Semič is St.Štefan church. Semiška gora above Semič, which is covered with carefully cultivated vineyards and well settled vineyard cottages, is a real meeting place of lovers and connoisseurs of good wine, about which Semič people are especially proud of. Lovers of nature can take a walk to  Smuk above Semič.
    Semič is also well known after a rich culture tradition. The people of Semič are in many association, which with theirs activities keep alive old tradition. Semič is also known after a traditional band called Semiška ohcet and after a musician, singer and jolly fellow Tonček Plut, which knows how to play on paper of a ivy.

    Semič takes a special place also in works of its compatriot, poet, translator, literal historian and essayist, Lojze Krakar. In memory of Krakar is in February performance called Krakarjevi dnevi, which will become traditional Semič's culture holiday.
 

    When you are in Semič you can visit many natural and culture sights.
