Where is Adlešiči?
The village Adlešiči lies 12 km southeast of Črnomelj,
the centre of Bela krajina. It lies on the sothernmost part of Bela krajina, above a steep
bank of the Kolpa river covered with trees and bushes. It is divided into three parts:
gornji and dolnji Adlešiči (upper and lower Adlešiči) and Nabrežice (Nabreško selo).

In the middle of the village there is a
church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, the 'master' of fishermen. It was first mentioned in
1268 as a St Nicholas' forester's chapel. The church has had its recent form
since the 18th century. It is surrounded by a cemetery.

The village has the Zadružni dom, built in 1955 in
which there are a shop, post office, store house and buffet. Next to Zadružni dom there
is a Kulturni dom, built in 1980. In the main hall there are pictures of seven prominent
men who were born or worked in Adlešiči.
Adlešiči has been inhabitated since prehistoric
times. On Preložnik and Velika Plešivica they have discovered traces of Ilirian posts.
It was inhabitated in the Roman times, too.
In the Middle Ages the area was dominated by the Croats,
the Hungarian and later by Istrian lords, counts Andechs- Meran, Spanheim and Gorizia
lords. That lasted until the White Carniola was submitted to the Habsburgs in 1374.
Adlešiči faced hard times during World War 2, it was
burnt down in 1945.
There are a lot of monuments in the village dedicated to
the victims from that time.
