CULTURAL LIFE IN THE VILLAGE

Young members of folklore group (around 1970).

The educational society with its choruses and folklore group cares for the cultural life of the villagers.
The educational society Adlešiči was registered in 1921. But the folklore group had already appeared in 1908 in Vienna (for the 60th birthday of Franz Joseph). The leader of the folklore group in that time was Ivan Šašelj.
After the war the folklore group had some financial problems because they needed new instruments. They had to sell wood to buy them. Some money was donated by villagers who cared a lot for their cultural life. Some money was given by the Society of cultural organisations, to buy new hats and girdles.

The members of the folklore group hosted the other cultural performances.

People in the folklore group like dancing and tradition because in that way they show they belong into the village. Quite frequently there are several members of the same family in the folklore group.
Everyone can become a member of the folklore group. Rehearsals are more intensive before the appearances. The ex-members still help to other members.
The folklore group is very important for the village. Adlešiči is known in Slovenia and abroad because of it. They have appeared in different performances from Vienna to Ohrid (Macedonia) and won a lot of awards.
Singing has, in fact, always been in the hearts of the villagers because of hard work on their farms which was accompanied with singing.
