Events

The two events connected with wine are : Martinovanje and Vinska vigred. When wine-growers present their wines and the effort they have invested in the making of the wine.

Martinovanje

The event takes place in November round the Martinovo (on 11. November). During the festivities they judge the wines and the wine-growers can prove themselves. The best get the deserved rewards and prove the quality of their wines. Wine-growers can also come in direct contact with buyers. Martinovanje promotes our area and helps the knowledge of belokranjsko wine.

Martinovanje takes place in all three communities (Črnomelj, Metlika and Semič) but differences in content and in presentation.

Vinska vigred

It takes place in the third week of may. Unlike Martinovanje, the wines on Vigred are already mature. This judgement is more official and shows the true quality the wine.

During both events there are also musical, theatre and other events. There are a lot of lectures connected with viticulture and farming taking place at that time. Companies present their products which resource in making wine. Martinovanje and Vinska vigred present themselves on larger fairs like the Vinski sejem in Ljubljana. Thereupon visitors of both events are not just from Bela krajina but from all Slovenia.
