THE TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK

I decided to describe the Triglav national park because it is Slovenia 's only national park. It is well known, because of its beautiful mountains and preserved nature. I really enjoy visiting it.

The first idea about the foundation of the Triglav national park came in the year 1908, when prof. Albin Belar proposed the foundation of a protected area, called Naravovarstveni park nad Komarco. His idea was rejected, but it wasn't forgotten. In the year 1924, there was the first foundation of the Triglav national park. But the protected area included just the valley of the Triglav lakes. When the park was founded, its size wasn't as big as it is today. The present size exists since 1981. The park got its name from Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain. It lies on the area of 83 807ha.

The Triglav national park can give you many chances for recreation. You can visit many natural and cultural monuments, like churches, museums, monuments, caves, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, mountains and so on. If you want to go here for a week or more, you can stay in a hotel, apartment, kamp, bivouacs and in many mountains huts.

In summer you can visit Bled and Bohinj and their lakes. There you can swim or you can rent a boat. You can also rent a bike and go around the lake and if you are enough sporty you can go up to Pokljuka. Of course you can go climbing mountains or walk on easier hills. You can also rent a canoe or kayak and go on Soca's waterfalls and rapids.

In winter you can go skiing to Kranjska gora, Vogel, Kobla and Kanin. There are also prepared tracks for cross country skiing.

If you are a lover of nature the Triglav national park is a paradise for you. Here you can watch stein bocks, chamois, gold eagles and the like. There are also many different flowers and trees.
