MAY
“I can't wait you'll meet my grandmother, “ Mojca, a pupil of the fifth
class says to her friend Ales. “ The forest of Trnovo is beautiful,
you know,” she added.
Half an hour later they came to a beautiful cottage, where Mojca's
grandmother lived. She invited them to dinner. While they were eating
she told them about her father who was lost in the forest, when she
was a little girl. He was saved by May, who offered him shelter and
showed him the way out of the forest. “May is anusual creature,” grandmother
said. “He was shown to my father as a beautiful colourful bird. He looked
like a friendly dragon with a long tail and big green eyes. Dad couldn't
move, because May had the magic power. He told my father, that his mission
is to help travellers, who lost the way in the forest. Suddenly he turned
into a human being and invited him to the cottage, which he conjured
up in no time. Villagers didn't believe my Dad, when he told them about
May, “grandmother finished the story.
“This is only a story, “Ales said.
“Who knows?” grandmother shrugged.
“Anyway, we'll go to the forest of Trnovo tomorrow,” said Mojca quickly.
“What about next week?” Ales asked meekly.
Mojca's eyes glinted. “You really believe grandmother, don't you?” she
said.
It was a lovely day when Mojca woke up Ales the next morning. After
breakfast they went to the forest. Grandmother told them not to get
lost and come back till noon. In the forest they found a lot of beautiful
brown boletus. They picked mushrooms and put them in the basket.
After some time they came to a beautiful stream called the Trnovlje,
which was deep in the forest. They stopped for a moment. The forest
looked dark and unknown. There were no boletus under the trees. Mojca
and Ales kept going, but they couldn't fine the way home.
Luckily they saw a forester, who helped them. They spent the night at
his cottage at the edge of the forest and the next morning they returned
home.
Could you imagine who the forester was? Yes, you are right. It was
May, the good creature who helped people get out of the forest of Trnovo.
After dinner May told Mojca and Ales his secret and turned himself into
a dragon. The children weren't afraid of him, because they remembered
grandmother's story. When they first met, he was the forester, because
he didn't want to scare the children. Mojca told May about her great-grandfather,
who had been lost in the forest.
Mojca and Ales were very tired and went to bed early. They were protected
by May, so they slept well. However, in the morning they didn't wake
up in the cottage but in the forest, surrounded by boletus.
After a short time, they left the forest and went to the grandma's.
When they were talking about their trip, they told her about the forester,
but they didn't mention May.
“That's strange, “ grandmother said. She wanted to ask Mojca and Ales
some questions, but Mojca's Mum arrived to take the children home. On
the way home, they saw someone at the edge of the forest waving his
hat. Was it May?
