The Reconstruction of two traditional Buildings in the Trentino Region

The paper deals with a particular experience (it is carried out at the present time) regarding the reconstruction of two rural buildings. They belong to the traditional building heritage of the Trentino region. They are the first buildings in a new open air museum, where will be preserved meaningful traditional rural buildings of the region.

The aim of this reconstruction is on the one side to maintain the original shape of examples of the traditional buildings and on the other side to preserve the building techniques and to train young carpenters and masons. We must preserve examples of building typology, because, in the latest years, the built environment has been deeply modified by deep restorations of the traditional buildings. This restorations make changes in the building tipology and in the constructive part of the building itself by the introduction of new materials and new building techniques.

The paper refers on the aims of the research; the methodology of analysis to develop the preliminary study on the different typologies of rural traditional buildings of the Trentino region; on the methodology to choose two meaningful buildings and to make the survey of the chosen buildings; on the methodology to the plan of the reconstruction; on the materials and on the techniques used; on the building phases. Today (May 9, 2000) the first building is almost completed. We think it will be finished at the end of the May.
