Project Summary Project Site

We started our project in December 1997 when our computer science teacher Mr. Branko Marcetic applied for participation and got a welcome message. It took us nearly a month to organize, to decide about a category and our entry. Then the holidays came, and everything was calm until 6 of January 1998. After that time we spread the work among us. We convinced our sociology teacher Miss. Mojca Ogorevc to join us. Then we started for real. We came across similar research which was conducted in 1993, shortly after Slovenia was recognized as an independent state, so we decided to compare our 1998 results with 1993 results.

Our project narrative, along with all necessary web links got its shape. It also took much effort to find somebody to translate all the material into the English language. That was the point when Mrs. Svagelj, Mrs. Hudler and Mrs. Brems ( American- born) came into the game. At the same time we tried to get some sponsors to help us overcome the gap between our pockets and our telephone bills. Finally, we shaped our questionnaire and started to look for E-mail lists to send it. Mr.Marcetic decided that we should also the use huge possibilities of I*EARN conferences along with our local Slovenian and some other Internet conferences to get representative feedback information. Each of us had a survey all the time in our pockets, and we took every chance to get somebody to answer it. Our parents, uncles, grandparents, neighbors- nobody was immune from our trying to get the answers.

At the same time we tried to involve as many members from our community as possible ( our parents, people from the local radio station, local poets, somebody from the city council and so on). There was a lot of work to be done. We had to refresh and rebuild our School web site, translate it into English and there was an enormous quantity of data to be collected and processed. Our photographer was taking pictures, while we argued about how to edit our web sites.

A big surprise was that a lot of people sent their comments on values, along with their answers to our survey. Some new connections took place, so after the project was completed, discussions all over the World took place.

Below is the list of 50 countries from which we got the answers on our survey.

Czech Republic Angola Argentina Greece Austria Brasil Bulgaria Canada Columbia Croatia
Kazakhstan Ireland Yugoslavia Haiti Latvia Lithuania Australia Panama Russia Andora
New Zeland Spain Macedonia Slovakia UK USA Viethnam Poland Bosnia Finland
Nederland Samoa Singapore Japan Estonia Sweden Belarus Bahrain Denmark Iceland
South Africa Sweden Costa Rica Portugal Mexico Germany Ecuador India Italy Slovenia

Now the project is in its final stage. The Peer Review process is left to be done. Although there are more than 70 schools in our category (550 schools all together), we believe our work will bring some results. Good luck to all of you, our Internet friends. We shall try to keep in touch with all of you in our future efforts.

It was a great experience for all of us. We never did such a thing and Internet possibilities sometimes left us openmouthed. We are sure that we did a good thing, and already we are anxious to participate next year.
