THE POSIBILITIES OF INCREASING THE NUMBER OF VISITORS IN SMALLER ETHNOLOGICAL MUSEUMS

We strive to preserve the vernacular architecture in its original shape. The restoration of the structures calls for a lot of effort and money, the greatest difficulty being the preservation itself. Often times the visitors come only once, after which the interest dies out. To make the structures attractive to them again we need new incentive. The suitable solution to this would be smaller exhibitions of a special character in connection with the fore-mentioned structures. The exhibition "From Flax to Linen" will be organized in this sense. Events such as readings, concerts, demonstrations of old customs through slides… could also attract visitors. Beside these activities the Schirner smokehouse in Piregg near Birkfeld in eastern Austria offers tasty open stove "roasted corn mush with white coffee". The advertisement for that is published in a simple brochure which, beside other information, mentions a special exhibition. This project is still in its early stages, and the future will show how successful it is.
