Letter 5 - My country

  Hallo Dominik,

Thank you for your last letter is was fun to read what you did on a normal day. You said that you read a book for two hoers between 23.00 and 1.00! I should have fallen asleep after 10 minutes.

Sweden is quite a big country. It s 1600 km from north to south. We got 9 million inhabitants. Our neighbours are Denmark, Norway and Finland. Our capital is Stockholm and it s a very beautiful city. The royal family who lives in Stockholm has no power at all. It s the prime minister who is in charge. Our highest top is kebinekaise and it s 2117m high. The most of our country is forest. The closet capital is Copenhagen. It s in Denmark. We can take the train over the oresunds bridge. It only takes about 20 minutes. We ve got some quite big lakes in Sweden. The Nobel Prize is handed out in Sweden.

What do you think about the war in Irak?

I m looking forward receiving your letter.

Bye for now,

Kristian

Dear Malin,

Thanks for your letter. I enjoyed it. Now I am going to describe you my country.

I live in a small country called Slovenia. Slovenia is in Europe, near Italy, Croatia, Austria and Hungary. Slovenia is 20 000 km2 big and its shape looks like a chicken. It’s not that big. About 2 milion people live in Slovenia. It’s not that much. The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana. It’s quite big (300 000 in habitants) and old town. I like it. I live in a small town called Solkan, near Nova Gorica. It’s a very, very old town, but beautiful. We have a small part of the coast and the sea is called the Adriatic sea. It’ so small, but we like it. Slovenia has got lots of woods, parks, castles,it is very green.

Slovenia is only 10 years old, so far we had only one president Milan Kuèan. Now we have our second president, Janez Drnovšek. We also have our national anthem called Zdravljica. It was written by our very important poet, France

Prešeren. He died in ninteenth century. Our flag has got three colours: blue, white and red. The biggest mountain is Triglav and the longest river is Sava. We speak Slovenian. It’s very complicated for other people. We have currency called Tolar SIT. Soon we will use Euro. For abut 2 years we will be in Europe, too. We have typical houses for every region. Our schools are very good. We have one university in Ljubljana and the other in Maribor and Koper.

That’s all I can tell you about my country.

I’m looking forward to your letter.

Bye, bye

Ula
