About Chritsmas in Slovenia

I'm going to tell you how we in Slovenia celebrate Christmas and New Year.

When Christmas comes the whole town is in lights and the atmosphere when you walk through the city is really fantastic. It's a real shame because here is no snow 'cause of our mild climate.

A week before Christmas we are all in the town buying presents for others. We, Slovenians also send Christmas cards to all we know and like. We usually decorate our own Christmas tree in every house. We put a Christmas crib under the tree on Christmas Eve and we celebrate Christmas with our friends or relatives.  When we go to bed Santa Clause brings the presents and he puts them under the tree. The next day we are all surprised and happy.

I want to describe you how Christmas was in our house last year.

As usually (after my dad prepared a tree for decoration) we decorated our Christmas tree. Then my sister and me tried to put the Christmas crib under the tree and (you won't believe this) we did it. The nice smell was coming from the kitchen and we couldn't resist it so the turkey didn't spend so much time on the table. When we went to bed that night I didn't exactly close my eyes but I heard some noise and I saw Santa Clause! The real one! I couldn't believe my eyes. He was smiling and he didn't notice that I was there. It was a very short moment because in the second later he vanished. But that didn’t matter. I saw him and no one else. The next morning everyone was asking me why I was so happy but no one ever figured it out. But when we saw the presents… That was MAGNIFICENT. I got a mobile phone and we were all SOOOO happy.

How does Christmas look like in your house?

When New Year comes some people use firecrackers so it's a little noisy and dangerous around that time. A day or two before the New Year everyone is buying champagne which is opened at exactly 0.00. We can see lots of fireworks in the sky that night.

I like Christmas and New Year because of the atmosphere that’s around that time.
