It is necessary for pupils and teachers to meet
at the beginning of the on-line course to see each other and discuss the
requirements. This meeting could be a workshop - a simulation of the future
work. What should be practised?
-
sending E-mail messages (to individuals, distribution lists,
mailing lists)
-
answering E-mail messages (quoting, deleting the unnecessary
text)
-
using a browser (links, copying)
-
reading articles in news groups (subscribing)
-
replying to articles in news groups
-
writing a new article in news groups
-
joining a chat group
-
participating in a chat
-
perhaps - using a search engine
It's very important that there are parents or tutors with
younger pupils, people who will help pupils when something goes wrong with
the computer. If some pupils can't attend the face-to-face meeting, clear
written instructions have to be prepared for them.
Then the lesson plan should be discussed and all the rules
set: when the assignments are sent and when they're supposed to be done,
excuses, exams....
But above all: this is the first or perhaps the only "live"
meeting - let's try to make it interesting, challenging, with bits of fun
here and there.
