The second edition of EuropeanArtStudents'DigitalWorks Exhibition (eu-stuart.si 2005/06) invites young artists to submit their work (video, animation, short film, open digital media works) and to participate in a special theme category:
LJUBLJANA (MARIBOR, NOVA GORICA...)??? WHAT (WHO, WHERE) IS THAT?

or to submit an Open theme work.

Theme CATEGORIES:
A. Special theme:
LJUBLJANA (MARIBOR, NOVA GORICA...)??? WHAT (WHO, WHERE) IS THAT?
B. Open theme

THE SPECIAL THEME:
LJUBLJANA (MARIBOR, NOVA GORICA...)??? WHAT (WHO, WHERE) IS THAT?
On May 1st 2004 Slovenia, among some other counties, joined European Union. For the old EU citizens this meant the appearance of some new names of the counties, cities and persons in the news. But do they know any more about these countries and people? How do they accept the fact of the presence of the "newcomers"? With joy, fear, indifference?
What about Slovenian experience? And experiences of other 'new' countries?

The above is not in any way a suggestion how to deal with this year's theme. The theme is simply "LJUBLJANA (MARIBOR, NOVA GORICA...)??? WHAT (WHO, WHERE) IS THAT?". We expect diverse answers in diverse media and modes. Short street interviews with people of Lisbon, Tallinn, Berlin? OK. A monologue into a camera? A reflection, a commentary of a resident? A research of available literature, maps, encyclopaedia? A romance? A SF? A documentary? A computer game? OK.

You have never heard about Slovenia or its towns? You have the opportunity to be invited to spend three nights in an art youth hostel (a former military prison) in Ljubljana, to get to know it. You are from Slovenia? You have the opportunity to be invited to realise a short video or animation in the studios of Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts.

Length CATEGORIES*:
Applicants can submit their work in requested formats in the following categories:
a. Quick snack: 1 minute clip (video, animation)
b. Easy snack: 2-5 min (short film, video or animation)
c. Tea Time: 6-15 min (short film, video or animation)
d. Coffee break: length undefined (open media - audio/video installation, interactive computer work, web project)

The works must be submitted in the format appropriate for screenings (see Length Categories a,b,c). Open media submissions (d) will be treated specially, regarding the special demands and the possibilities of realisation in particular show spaces.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:

ENTRIES:
Works of current art students and artists that have recently graduated (in years 2004 and 2005) are welcome. No entry fees.

AWARDS:
The eu-stuart.si event is not (and is not intended to become) a contest. First of all, it is a platform for communication among young artists, however in its start, as it works on extremely low-budget basis, we cannot afford to invite the participating artists to Ljubljana. We can only show their digital work. But to get a step further in the aim of actual mobility of people, we decided for the bellow:
The jury will select the best work from the Special theme submissions: "Ljubljana...". The visitors of the exhibition on tour will choose "the winner of the public" (from both, the Special and the Open Theme).
A foreign winner will receive 3 days FREE stay in Celica Youth Hostel (http://www.souhostel.com/en/artists/index.html) in Ljubljana during the event Famul in Celica in year 2006. If the winner is a Slevenian resident, she or he will be invited to realise a short video or animation in the studios of Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts.

FORMATS:
All submissions must be on following media: CD, DVD (.avi or .mov), mini DV (PAL) appropriate for screening and visual presentation (PC formats only).

APPLICATION and DATES:
Application form can be found on
http://www.eu-stuart.si/FS-EU-05-APPLIC.pdf

Application deadlines: Application forms and works should be received by 1 P.M. July 1st 2005 for final selection. The date of the official postal stamp (June 26th 2005) is valid if the work arrives later than July 1st.

The works will be selected upon a professional jury decision. All applicants will be informed until September 1st by email.
The exhibition will take place from September till October 2005 in different art galleries in Ljubljana.
Duration: The exhibition will be touring Slovenia for one year. We will try to spread our network to other countries as well.

The application must be proceeded in the following order:
1. Application form together with your short CV and 1 still frame (.jpg), which we will use for web & press presentation of your work - send by email: famul@eu-stuart.si
or: info@galerijagt-famul.si

2. The viewing material together with printed and signed application form send by post: see bellow
