Project:

It all began in grammar school 'gimnazija Sentvid, Ljubljana, Slovenia'. In 3rd year I had to write a seminar. I could choose the title myself. My family have many decorations of my great grandfather. My grandmother, his daughter told me that he got all that decorations when he fought in the World War I. So I decided to write my seminar about W.W.I, more specifically about Isonzo (Soca) front which was going on in what is nowadays my home country, Slovenia.

I began asking my grandmother many questions. Where did my great grandfather fought? When?  Most of the questions she couldn't answer, so she went to the Austrian War Museum. She was welcomed as the daughter of captain Iskric who had been given the highest Austro-Hungarian decoration. But the the big surprise was when I took those decorations from home to the Slovenian National museum, custodian Joze Podpecnik told me that one of them was really that highest decoration knights cross of the order of Maria Theresa. And that it's the only one in Slovenia. Other decorations are very valuable too, even more because they stayed in the family.

My family started to collect documents from the Austrian War Archives. My grandmother had translated them from German, which was very difficult, because some were written in old 'gothic' writing. My father and I than typed them in the computer. In the end we made some kind of collection of documents and translations and photographs of decorations.

I decided to publish all that material on the Net. I scanned the photos of the medals, which were taken in the national museum, I went to the field and take some of the photos of the remains of the Front and made a little photo gallery.

I also translated all these pages into English so all of you can read it. I try to translate as much as I can but Slovenian site will always be more comprehensive.

Appendix (15. 1. 2001)

Now it's a year since I've published these pages. Great success! I have met a lot of explorers from abroad (Austria, Italy, Hungary, Germany, USA,...). I got the award on EON internet portal for the best pages. I have to thank everyone who had send an email.

Since I have published this, things changed. Little design an many content improvements. I don't have enough time for english translations. But there are 11 more photos in the gallery with the great links to Altlas of Slovenia, thanks to Marjan Krusic.

Plans for the future:

Of course there is a lot of translation still to be done. And I have to find out more about my great-grandfathers military carieer. I am going to add a new page with biography.
