Accessibility by air

The national carrier is Adria Airways. Ljubljana airport has regular connections with almost all capitals and larger cities in Europe.

Sea Transport

No special limits are required to sail in Slovenian territorial waters. Only valid passports of passengers and crew and other ship documents are necessary.

Railway Transport

Almost every town in Slovenia can be reached by train. International train connections are also good. The most important passenger trains are: the Eurocity Mimara linking Ljubljana with Germany and Italy, the IC Kras and the IC Green trains.

Vehicle Insurance

A green card (international vehicle insurance) must be carried by all foreign drivers on their entry into Slovenia, with the exception of those from countries with which Slovenia has a special agreement. Foreign citizens without a green card may obtain short-term insurance in Slovenia (52 DEM for 15 days, 75 DEM for 30 days).

95 and 98 octane unleaded petrol (EUROSUPER); 98 octane petrol (leaded) (SUPER 98); diesel D1 and D2 (DIESEL).

On motorways and in the Karavanke tunnel.

Roadside Assistance

Speed Limits, Safety Belts, Headlights

Motorways (green signs) 130 km/h, main roads (blue signs) 100 km/h, other roads 90 km/h, in built-up areas 50 km/h. Safety belts must be fastened, including the ones on the back seats if installed. Main headlights low beam (not just the position lights) must be on at all times while driving, even in broad daylight.

Permitted Blood Alcohol Level

Up to 0.5 g/kg for drivers of private vehicles and motor bikes; 0.0 g/kg for all professional drivers.

Rent-a-Car

There are car rental agencies in all larger towns and international airports. All major companies are represented, including Hertz, Avis, Budget, ...
