Explanations of the name "Bela krajina" are very different. Maybe the name is connected with the prevailing whiteness of limestone, which is characteristic for rocky karstic surface. This area could be named like this because of  white birches. Some say this name is connected with whiteness of Bela krajina's folk costume.
