  • B. Sc.: 1964 at Faculty for Architecture in Ljubljana;
    Thesis:"Reconstructions with the use of measurement module and proportionality on the case of roman monuments in Sempeter (Slovenia)";

Occupation
  • In the years 1966 and 1967 he collaborated as a researcher in Greece on the Ecole Francaise d'Athenes (publ.:Dľlos, E. de Boccard, Paris 1970).
  • 1971 and 1972 postgraduate studies of protection of cultural heritage (ICCROM - Rome).
  • Between the years 1966 and 1974, he worked as architect-conservationist at the Institute for the protection of cultural monuments in Kranj.
  • From 1974 on he is professor on the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana for the History of Architecture and for the Protection of cultural monuments.
  • From 1998, he is also the vicerector of the University of Ljubljana.
  • He has lessons also on the Department of Ethnology (Faculty for Philosophy) and Department of Landscape Architecture (Biotechnical Faculty) as well as on the postgraduate studies of the Faculty for Engineering and the Department for Restauration of the Monuments (Academy of Arts) of the University of Ljubljana and University of Zagreb (Croatia) - he lectured also on some universities of Italy and Austria.
Memberships
  • 1978 he became member of the UNESCO Professional Scheme
  • 1986 he wasmember of the UNESCO commission for the education of architects conservationists,
  • 1993 and 1994 he was a member of the commission for the protection of monuments by the Council of Europe,
  • from 1998 he is the »national co-ordinator for the research« of the Slovenian government (architecture and urbanism).
Field of research, projects, awards
  • In Slovenia he involved the methodology of interdisciplinary »open-planning« of revitalisation of architectural heritage, specially of registered historic town and country centers. He also developed the internationally comparable methodology for documentation of architectural heritage in Slovenia. He is the author of 20 plans for revitalisation of protected settlements in Slovenia, and he organised and implemented the documentation and restoration plans for the cultural heritage in he earthquake damaged areas in 1974, 1976 and 1998 in Slovenia and in 1979 in Montenegro (Yugoslavia), where the Bay of Kotor became part of UNESCO heritage using his method of documentation.
    By the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, he collected and organised the documentation of the architectural heritage of Slovenia and of some regions in neighbouring countries
    Last year (1999) he was a co-author of the pilot project of revitalisation of Štanjel, and the author of the pilot project of revitalisation of the town of Škofja Loka (collaboration with the Commission for the cultural heritage by the Council of Europe) - both settlements are registered as the national monuments and proposed for the list of world heritage.
    In 1981, he got the regional Presern's award for the revitalisation of the protected town centers of Gorejnska.

His Bibliography was published in the Bibliografija Univerze v Ljubljani (Bibliography of the University of Ljubljana, BBUL 1976, 1987, 1996) and on Internet (COBISS/COBIB). It contains more than 650 titles, among them 30 books, over 250 scientific articles, results of over 20 greater research projects, as well as papers of national and international congresses, etc. The greatest part of bibliography concerns the protection of cultural heritage, history of architecture, theoretical problems of architecture and planning.
