Project meeting  in Lietuva, 31. 9. - 6. 10. 2006

Building Bridges, Active Citizenship – the third year of the project

2006/07 is the third and the last year of our Comenius project Building Bridges, Active Citizenship. Project activities were planned last October in Lithuania. Wonderful weather and magnificent Lithuanian countryside impressed us most on our second visit.

This time we got to know Dzukija, one of the national regions of Lithuania. Druskinikai, a famous spa resort, a boat trip to Liskiava, Grutas Park- an open air museum of Soviet statues, a hearty meal of Lithuanian national dishes in a typical country house are our Dzukijan experiences.

The capital, Vilnius, felt homely as well as the old town of Kaunas. Rumsiskes, an open air museum presented other Lithuanian regions, while Kernave gave us the opportunity to catch and eat trout.

As far as the project activities are concerned, they are still connected to European Union. Being new members of EU, the three partner countries decided to investigate the positive as well as the possible negative consequences by entering EU. Young people are especially interested in education and employment, possibilities and getting cheaper fares and entrance fees for museums. In order to get accurate and precise information on the above mentioned issues, a visit to the Center of Europe in Ljubljana is being planned.

Our aim is to teach the skills which will help our students to efficiently cease the opportunities that EU offers.

This spring activity wll be mainly directed into brochure writing which will resume the results of the researches, the students' and teachers' impressions and three-year-project activities. The exact contents will be determined at the last meeting in Jaworzno, Poland. The brochure will, as the final result of our work, be accessible to other schools and may encourage them to start similar activities.
