§ the
European union budget intended for the new members was not very
favourable so our three countries requested more solidarity and their
efforts paid off to everybody’s content.
§ each
of the above mentioned papers discussed and demanded investigations
about the possible CIA prisons located in Europe. The most
frequent suspicions were connected with Polish Mazovian lakes and the
opportunity to discuss human rights violation and the politicians’
responsibilities arose.
§ what
seems to be of a historical moment for the Slovenes, i.e. the OSCE
(The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) conference in
Ljubljana, prooved as an unimportant piece of news for Poland or
Lithuania.
§ the
1st December, International AIDS day, lacked articles
on AIDS – obviously people got used to living with it.
§ unfortunately,
the Human Rights Day, December 10th, went by almost
imperceptibly The European Ombudsman report was published only in the
Slovenian paper. Interestingly enough, the article on Belgium, where
homosexual couples were allowed to adopt children, seemed to be of
interest in all three countries.
§ European
swimming championship
occupied sports pages
in the three papers while the Slovene and the Polish also reported from
the Harrachow’s ski-jumping competition and the Lithuanians enjoyed
the European Basketball Euroleague, basketball being their national
sport. As far as the culture was concerned, all the papers issued
articles on Berlin Film Festival.
The
research will be accurately introduced in the brochure in May.
