Gorjanci is kind of national park, with national border to Croatia. Highest peak is Trdinov vrh with tall radio tower. When you find GeoCache, it's just the begining of your quest....

Let's take a look in geology first:

Limestone layers at eastern end of Gorjanci in Sutna place were formed in deep sea 95M years ago.
Sand mine near Camberk - sand for many new Slovenia highways

Under the surface

Limestone regions of karst forms miraculous forms in caves. Just 15km from GeoCache location is one small, but wonderful caveKostanjeviška jama, which is open for turists. I think you will not regret cheap entrance fee. Cave is over 1.000m long and it's one of largest in area.

There are many other caves hidden in Gorjanci, just calling to hide some GeoCaches.

Forests and trees

Trees are old and tall. There are many interesting lime trees in vilages under the Gorjanci. Widest lime tree found in this area is in Gorenje Vrhpolje vilage, called turška lipa or turkish lime tree with circumference 625 cm

Gorjanci zoology is not known very good.

Very turbulent history is result of agitated events by the end of 12th century. This was the time when many castles and forts were built. In the year 1234 Spanheims set cistercijan cloister near Kostanjevica called "Fontis sanctae Mariae", in 1407 Celeian count Herman II built kartuzija Pleterje.

Many turkish warriors crossed area in 15th century. Some WW2 monuments are in the area, mostly as memory to herioc events and people from Gorjanci.

Many ruins are not very well investigated. Pligrim church st. Danijel where GeoCache* is hidden is in very bad shape. There's no evidence about this site, but it's placed in quiet place, suitable for short walk or to start route to the peak of Gorjanci.
