About me
I was born in 1954 at the maternity hospital Jesenice. My childhood was spent in the rural area of Gorenjska, at Dobrava near Kropa. After the 8-year primary schooling at Lipnica I became a commuter for Gimnazija Kranj. At the University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Arts) my major subject was Slovene and the minor one English. The two diploma papers were titled:The use of active and passive voice in the Dalmatin's and Japelj's translations of The Holy Bible; The relationship mother-son in the D.H.Lawrence's novel Sons And Lovers. Having graduated in 1978, I was lucky to get a substitute teacher's position at the primary school in Cerklje, Gorenjska. My next job was teaching Slovene and English to technicians, car mechanics and plumbers in Škofja Loka where I endured for 11 years. In the meantime I got married to Miran Hladnik; we've got two children, Mojca (born in 1982) and Jurij (born in 1984). For 20 years we lived in an attic apartment in Kranj (Stražišče), but in 2002 we moved to a new house, located in my native village Dobrava. The whole family accompanied dad to The United States and to Germany (for more than 2 years altogether) where he was taking the advantage of the Fulbright and Humboldt scholarships.
Now I have been an English teacher at the Secondary School of Economics in Kranj since 1995. I still enjoy my work, it doesn't matter how exhausting it gets sometimes. One of my favourite occupations is setting up contacts with schools from abroad; we've had visits from Finland (Savo Vocational Commerce and Administration School, Kuopio) and we have just launched an e-twinning project with the Secondary School of Engineering from Vsetin, The Czech Republic.
