Today’s Dwelling Culture as Result of Inherited Principles, Customs and Needs

Dwelling culture is one of the most important phenomena in the process of planning, design and implementation of housing architecture. Records and tests of some special features of Slovene dwelling culture can help to define identity of Slovene housing architecture. Analyses to achieve this goal should contain elements as: way of life, habits, ideals, common and individual values, wishes and preferences, outside influences, even status symbols, but also some inherited local and traditional features which are connecting present with the past. There are also some other, quite different elements, which should not be neglected: new materials, new technologies, new technical standards, new layouts, new housing types etc. All these features define identity of housing architecture, define elements and characteristics by which can be recognizable among other housing architectures.

Crisis of identity is more and more present because of the tendency for internationalization and globalization of the world, which is going to wipe out the borders between countries, nationalities, and cultures and at last between identities. The question about this problem is, how soon can this happen?

Does exist Slovenian dwelling culture, does exist identity of Slovenian housing architecture at the beginning of new century? Did it grow up from inheritance? My paper will try to answer these questions.
