"One-Man Show" 1995, Mala Galeria, Moderna Galeria
Ljubljana (Museum of Modern Art),
wooden
construction, 1000 slides, 22 questions, 24 slide projectors, tape recorder, microphone
In the centre of the gallery a wooden
construction was set including 25 slide projectors. The slide projectors were
projecting 1000 slides on the walls at a speed of 1 second - 1 slide. The slides
documented the artist's past work. Visitors to the exhibition were invited to come into
the center of the construction, which was the source of the "information".
At the moment they stepped inside, a light in the gallery switched on - which made it
impossible to see the slides anymore. The visitors then found themselves in a recording
studio in which an illuminated sign informed the visitors that the microphone was on; they
were invited to answer pre-recorded questions. Through this the exhibition delt with the
question: "what does a "personal show" mean nowadays? And/or: Can the
"artefact" be equal to the "artist's position"? At the moment when the
visitors left, stepping out of the inner space, the light in the gallery switched off and
the rapidly circulating slide projection was visible again.
