UNDERSTANDING THE ARCHITECTURAL TECTONICS, THE BASIS FOR A MODERN APPROACH IN THE INTERVENTIONS INTO THE VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE.

Beside the castle architecture, in the post-war era, Slovenian architectural heritage suffered the greatest damages in the vernacular architecture, because rural life changed the most, changing with it the architecture. The total protection of the vernacular architecture structures approach, which is supported in most cases by the official institutions, appeared to be effective in only a few cases, mostly where the structures are no longer in their normal use.
The interventions in the vernacular architecture often call for an addition of certain, however insignificant, elements which are mainly determined by the architectural composition and should consider the compositional elements of the building in the sense of a thorough analysis of the structure's architecture. The understanding and analysis of the architectural tectonics of the structure is the essential foundation for determining the newly added elements of the building, as well as for the correct evaluation of the existing elements. Often when we emphasize the decorativeness of the facade we forged the primarity of the elements of architectural tectonics, which reach back to the beginning of vernacular architecture. Many vernacular architecture objects, windows and openings-to name just a few, could be preserved if we considered the principles of architectural tectonics in their renovation.
