A Programme Proposal for the Improvement of Countryside

1 An overview of several Faculty of Architecture's projects (Ljubljana University) for the improvement of countryside over the last fifteen years, i.e. the continuity of space design, ICEA, CRPOV, the municipalities of Northeastern Slovenia.
2 An Alpe Adria project proposal - The Culture of Wood - dealing with the design of a countryside public space. Within the project, conference participants and project launchers contribute one detail (project) each. These projects must be made available to all the interested parties on condition that the authors are cited and the project and construction be carried out in their original form.
These items should be used for the completion of individual areas, such as parking lots, bus stops and stations, rest areas and crossroads, farmhouses, villages and towns.
The items should comprise pavings, curbs, paths, cycling paths, bridges, passages and galleries, scarps and less steep slopes made of stone or covered with bushes or grass, traffic blocks, pedestrian pathways, selective passages, info systems, such as roadsigns, indications and advertisement boards, newspaper stands, information points, open-air selling and serving points, sheds, refuges from bad weather and exposure to sun, waste-disposal baskets and refuse containers, lamps, seats, benches, fences and others.
The investors range from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Slovenia to municipalities, various sponsors, farm-owners and individuals.
Projects and their starting points, models of individual projects and their materialised versions, comments and suggestions for their improvement and adaptation, end projects ready for use, the analysis of their realisations and adaptations, and comments.
Project feasibility from information availability, feasibility, financing, co-financing and donating, to the execution and control.
A review of project results, from the info system to the evaluation of individual projects and experience deriving from them, from the financial project to the execution and placement into the countryside and the effect on the landscape (applicability, aesthetics, economics), from the analysis to either a conclusion of the project or to its continuation and amplification to be presented at the 11th Alpe Adria Conference in 2001.
