Title of work: “HUMANS FROM EARTH - IN/DIFFERENT LIGHT (CONSTRUCTION OF AN OBJECT)”

“Knowledge helps us better understand ourselves and the world. It gives us some sense of certainty. By accumulation of knowledge, things, information, concepts, images etc. human race created a vast and complex landscape that became as extensive and as impossible for us to fully apprehend as is the natural world and the universe we inhabit. An enormous quantity of discoveries and information don't help us to come any closer to understanding anything really fundamental about us and about the nature of life. Amidst heterogeneous and complex world of theories, information, images, concepts, ideologies, social patterns, documents, discoveries, we live in an absence of meaning. Yet everyone creates his or her own image of this world.

A great deal of media content and content from various other sources - an extremely dense quantity of images, sounds and informations will inhabit the object whose basic form will be generated in accordance to and as a support for machines (tv sets, sound devices, printers, projectors etc.). Object will be very corporeal, with references on architecture and at the same time a source of light, a landscape or a space of images, texts and sounds. Construction of an object may be possible to interpret as well as an experiment with an aim to detect the untamed, unfathomed and the sublime in this (constructed) world.”

SHORT BIO:

Viktor Bernik is born in Ljubljana on 25 March 1971. MFA Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana. Studied painting one semester in 2001 on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenija.
