Rene Rusjan CITALNICA Sobe s spominom / Rooms with Memory

Vabilo k sodelovanju v moji Citalnici MG 2005
V Moderni galeriji, poleti 2005

(ostale predvidene sobe: soba s spominom, dnevna soba s tv in racunalnikom, soba ogledal*...). Sobe so pravzaprav koticki s stenami, veliki vecinoma za enega obiskovalca naenkrat. Povezane so z dolgo citalniško mizo, kjer bodo knjige in mape s komentarji.

Invitation to participate in my Rading Room 2005
in Moderna galerija Ljubljana, summer 2005

In 1997 I set a Reading Room U3 at the Triennal of Slovene art - U3 (curator: Peter Weibel) in Moderna galerija Ljubljana. The main theme of the Reading Room were the three questions that I sent to several people: The first one was strongly related to the war that was just finished in the teritories of ex Yugoslavia and the possible inflence of such un experience on our personal life & work, on our perception of sociaty etc. The second one searched for a definition of a present/today/eternity. The third one asked what was the role of Art in our present life.

In August 2005 I am setting the Reading Room at the same place, again. It is a kind of "8 years later" reconstruction at the occasion of the last decade of 1975-2005 Slovene Art retrospectives, under the title: Territories, Identities, Networks: Slovene Art 1995-2005.
The content of my Reading Room thus relates to the last decade of our time and wants to widen the choice of art works, books, small objects, audio and video materials, commentaries and personal views to these past years and the present moment that is daily moving to the past and becoming a part of the history - public or personal.

With this letter, I am inviting you to add your piece of thought, a book, a small object, a piece of sound or video... with a short (or long) commentary to the theme. If you are one of those who participated at the Reading Room U3 in 1997, you are specially invited to give a thought to "8 years later" aspect. (note: the Reading Room itself is already in a context of Slovene art - your commentaries are a part of wider context, you don't need to relate to Slovene art!)

Space organization of the Reading Room: The visitor should be able to take a comfortable rest, there, and to browse the "rooms" and shelves by him/herself. The Room with a View shall, as in 1997, offer her/him a private corner with a daily newspaper and a view to a part of the wider exhibition. The Room with an Ear contains sound pieces, the Living Room film/video materials and computer access. (Other rooms: A Room of Mirrors, a Room of Archives, a Room with Memory) The rooms are actually small cca 1,5 m2 corners with walls - mostly for one visitor at a time. The rooms are connected by a long table board where there will be book shelves, files with commentaries etc. The visitors are invited to add their pieces and commentaries, so the Reading Room is interactive all the time during the exhibition. As ussually, it is a communication spot between artists, visitors and me.
