Washington DC’s premier traditional Ska outfit, Eastern Standard Time, brings together top musicians from the area’s ska and jazz scenes. Their differing musical backgrounds (such as jazz, blues, ska, calypso, soul and r & b) appeal to everyone from the growing Ska crowd to the Caribbean community to the jazz enthusiasts. Their debut CD released on BEATVILLE, a sub-label of RAS MEDIA is claimed to be THE release in Ska/Jazz in the last years bringing along versions of Charlie Parker’s ”Barbados”, Theolonious Monk’s ”Bemsha Swing”, Sonny Rollins’ ”Tenor Madness” and Dizzy Gillespies ”Be Bop” as well as well-temped ska/reggae-dancehall originals such as ”Mad Dog” feat. Guest-vocalist Collie Ranks and all time ska-classic ”Housewives choice”. Eastern Standard Time remains true to the roots of Ska music by playing a style which has formed a major influence on many modern genres, from reggae to alternative to punk. In choosing the traditional sound, they bring sophistication to the music without taking away from Ska’s intense energy. Eastern Standard Time performs original music, but have been known to put a unique spin on a Jamaican Ska classic or a new twist on a jazz standard. Their sound reaches the traditional Ska scene but also appeals to anyone who wants to get their feet movin’ on the dance floor! Eastern Standard Time’s seasoned performers have shared the stage with many of the greats in music as well as Ska bands from around the world. The musicians have graduated from such DC Ska giants as The Pietasters, The Skunks, The Checkered Cabs, and The Downbeat Rulers. The Washington Post called them, ”...one of Washington’s best bands.” MTV recently featured them on a segment about ska music. Eastern Standard Time is guaranteed to get your feet moving. Their unforgettable style and solid musician- ship brings pleasure to the ears of all listeners. Their exciting live performances are an exceptional experience, proving that they can bring the house down, time and ”Eastern Standard Time” again! |
