5. What can still be done? - Solutions
Project activities up until now have shown the pupils at each school how important our environment really is. Its beauty is unsurpassing and without it we would not survive. The solutions for preserving its beauty for generations to come are many, but it takes a lot of preserverence and patience to make it become a reality.
Putting ideas to work is one of the final aims of our two-year project, COLOUR MY WORLD. A few of the workshops that were carried out during our culture Spring Day on 7th April, 2009 at Osnovna sola Pivka were dedicated to the environment and how to implement some of the ideas suggested in the project:
- The pupils started with a video conference with their peers in Greece where they discussed some of the slogans for a cleaner environment that had been prepared by all the partner schools
- another group of pupils sent email messages which included these slogans to their Comenius friends at each school.
- a group of pupils photographed wild dumping grounds around our region and a booklet was prepared with photos of the illegal dumping grounds
- a list of demands towards a cleaner environment was written by the older pupils.
- a petition was signed by all the pupils and teachers of the school saying that we are aware of the problem of pollution and litter in our region and that we want to do something about it now.
- in the technical workshop pupils prepared wooden signs and burned some of the best slogans onto them to be put on the lawn of our school area.
On 25th May, 2009 we invited our mayor, Mr. Robert Smrdelj to our school, where we presented him with the booklet of the illegal dumping grounds, the signed petition, the list of demands of our school and two of the six signs to be put in front of the Pivka Commune.
We all had an interesting discussion with the him regarding the environmental problem and he took this one step further. He proposed to have our ideas and demands published in the regional newspaper 'Notranjsko-kraske novice' where we will be able to disseminate our ideas for a cleaner environment to the wider public. Hopefully someone will be listening. Even though it may seem a small step, our contribution is an important one for future generations to come.
