Other activities that were undertaken at our
school included a continuation of the Italian language course for both
pupils and teachers. Ten hours of Italian for the grade 8 pupils was
offered by one of our language teachers. We also organized a 20-hour
continuation course for our teachers. Both courses proved very successful.
Our school was chosen to represent Slovenia in Brussels along with
other European Comenius schools during the first Comenius Week from
24th - 27th November, 2001. The experience was truely fulfilling and
unforgetable. There was of course a lot of preparation to be done. We
had to gather project material for our display there as well as material
about our school, region and country. We searched for organizations
that would sponsor us any way they could and we prepared a website about
our Comenius project for the Comenius Space. The pupils who partook
in the visit were involved in various workshops and the accompanying
teachers discussed the advantages and benefits that projects like these
bring to education. A full report about the visit accompanied by a detailed
description of the discussions, joint decisions and photos was sent
to Mrs. Majda Širok of the National Agnecy.

During the Comenius Week our school also organized various activities for the public. A display of the Comenius projects undertaken at our school was made in Pivka's shopping centre. The pupils from the lower level (classes 1-4) made drawings on the theme of 'Friendship'. During craft lessons older pupils engraved the Comenius logo into wood making beautiful salvers. In the school comupter room our pupils had the opportunity to make on-line contact with the pupils from the Swedish school Olyckeskolan in Loberod via the programme MIRC. They talked directly with their friends in Sweden. Parents were also invited to take part in the activities. The parents of the youngers pupils were especially cooperative. They joined in the workshops and created with their children and on the theme 'What do you want to be when you're grown up?'
