PROTECTED ANIMALS AND PLANTS
We cannot speak of the future without including
the flora and fauna around us. This activity proved how much children
really love animals and plants. They really put their hearts into their
work. Endangered animals was one of the themes delt with in the grade
8 English course book. So, as a project the pupils of 8.a class did
some research on the endangered animals in our region. They searched
the internet, read newspaper articles and interviewed local hunters.
Even though we limited one animal per page, the pupils gathered so much
information that one page was not enough. Their descriptions included
the animal's physical appearance, food, habitat and reason/s for extinction.
The best projects were scanned, added to the booklet along with the
protected plants and sent by post to the partner schools. Endangered
plants, mainly flowers, were prepared by the second class and their
teacher as well as the mountaineering circle and biology teacher. In
this activity we compared the survival of animals and plants in each
country and reasons for their extinction to see if there is any similarity.
This material will be used in future biology classes. It was also one
of the themes discussed by the pupils at the final project meeting in
Lithuania.
