A COLLECTIONS OF STONES
Each school prepared a box the size of a one liter juice pack containing a few samples of stones from their region, accompanied by a description of the material the stones are made of, the approximate geological period of formation and a photo of the stones in their natural surroundings. This activity involved some research. The grades 8s took advantage of natural science day and with their Biology teachers collected samples and took photos of limestone and marl, the two most widely spread stones in our area. The grade7s also managed to get some samples of granite during the natural science week that they spent in Pohorje. We added it to our collection even though it is not found in our region. The stone descriptions and photos were put on discs and sent to the partner schools in boxes along with the samples. We displayed the stones from the other countries in the public library in Pivka. This material is to be used as authentic material for future studies in geography lessons.
