Children's future wishes and ambitions play
an important role in their growing up. We wanted to hear and see as
many thoughts on this theme as possible. We divided the activity to
fit three age groups, so that as many pupils as possible could be involved.
Pupils from 7-9 years made drawings on the theme:'What do you want to
be when you're grown up?' Pupils 10-12 wrote about their feelings and
made drawings on the topic:'What you do imagine the world will be like
when you are grown up?'The best drawings and compositions were displayed
then scanned, arranged in the form of a booklet and sent to each participating
school.
Pupils from 13-15 years of age made a survey on the future ambitions
of boys and girls from the school. This activity took place during Ethics
class. At first only 25 girls and 25 boys were to be questioned, but
then all the grade 8s wanted to join in. They were asked the question:'What
profession are you thinking of pursuing in the future?' The results
were presented in the form of a table and e-mailed to all the participating
schools. We also received the results of the other schools and made
a display on the Comenius display board. We found that the children's
ambitions are not all that different and that many are very similar
if not the same, even though the children come from different backgrounds
and countries.
