Slovenians cooking Italian style - Spring Day 2004

 

One of the many Spring Day workshops at Osnovna sola Pivka included a School Twinning activity with Italy. A few weeks before Spring Day 2004 both schools were busy choosing recipes of their favourite sweet dishes and translating them into Enlgish. The recipes were then exchanged and on Spring Day the schools tried out each other's recipes... and they were delicious! The best one at our school turned out to be Tiramisu while the Italian school boasted about how good Slovenian 'potica' was. In our school the italian pasteries were served to the staff and Spring Day guests. A few were also taken to the nearby Home for the Aged and served to the elderly citizens of our region during a musical- literary programme which the pupils also prepared for them.

You are welcome to try some of the recipes with your pupils. It's a great way of learning about culinary habits and customs of our European neighbours.
