HRANA IN UMETNOST
ART AND FOOD - USING ART TO CHANGE EATING HABITS

Projekt JABOLKO

Hrana in umetnost je Comenius 1 projekt, ki je nastal pod okriljem mreže NEAC. Trajal bo 3 šolska leta, torej med leti 2006 in 2009.
V projektu so vkljueene: Slovenija, Francija, Norveška, Romunija in Velika Britanija.

FINAL PARTNER'S MEETING IN RAMSGATE, 23rd - 27th MAY 2007

Four representatives of III. OŠ Celje (Mrs. Metka Vajdie, Mr. Aleksander Verhovšek, Matic Munda and Staš Kotarac Gueek) have recently travelled to theUK to take part in the final partners' meeting held in Ramsgate held between 23rd and 27th May 2007.

This was the second meeting (the first taking place in November in Nemours, France) where all the five member schools (Slovenia, Norway, England, Romania, France) met to discuss what they had done in their first year of Comenius 1 project: Art and Food – Using art to change students' eating habits.

The five groups were met by everything but typical English weather and we were all very happy to roam around the streets of Ramsgate, London and Canterbury without our brolleys and warm coats. It would seem that the weather was as warm as our host's hospitality.

Our host was Clarendon House Grammar School located in Ramsgate. It is a predominantly girl school with almost 760 girls and 40 very lucky boys. It specialises in languages which explains the fact they have language assistants for Spanish, Hungarian, German, French, Russian and Greek. They are also very active in the field of drama and we were privileged to have seen two performances, both written and performed exclusively by Clarendon House students.

All four Slovenian teachers have been staying with real English families in their houses and to tell you the truth, the experience was absolutely amazing. Having never set a foot inside an Englishman's home (their home is their castle and they don't let just anybody in either) this was a completely new experience. And a great one at that. Clarendon House Grammar school is quite famous for their immersion language programmes where young and older language students travel to the country of their target language where they have to use the language they are attempting to learn in everyday situations ALL THE TIME! They offer summer school classes and are inviting anybody to travel to the UK in their summer holidays to learn more English. Anybody interested?

Nevertheless, we went there not only to learn something from them, but to teach them a few things ourselves. Matic Munda gave a short lecture about Slovenia to two classes of students and his PowerPoint presentation about the regions of Slovenia was followed by Staš's presentation about our school. They both did a wonderful job and to quote one of the many girls who rushed to our two boys after they had finished: »I think your presentations rocked!«

The teachers, however, spoke about the Apple Day we had at our school and other activities our school has undertaken as a part of our Comenius project. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" goes an old English saying and to prove it wrong our group was invited to go to London for a day. It was an experience difficult to forget. The city, the sights ... So much to see and so little time to see it. Since we were only able to see a small part of London and the UK itself we can only hope there will be more opportunities to visit and to all the young readers out there reading this. Keep your eyes and ears open because there might be an opening on our next trip for YOU. Yes, you! Matic and Staš were chosen for their contribution to our Art and Food competition and we hope your contributions in the future will be just as good to earn you a magic ticket to one of the four partners school in the project. Ask Matic and Staš if it is worth it and I'm sure they'll say it isn't because they want to go there themselves.
