The needs of „information age" have strongly influenced state of knowledge in the field of library and information science and practice. Its terminology had to be widened by headwords of modern means of computer, communication and reprographic technologies, as well as by terms of informatic sociology, psychology, linguistics, semiotics, logic, mathematics, cybernetics, statistics and economics. The attitude of authors of Czech headwords was influenced and limited by factor that the basic English version was created without a participation of national authors.
We would recommend broadering the dictionary by terms from the above mentioned boarder disciplines. Nonexistence of obligatory structure of headwords including the rules of denoting synonyms, homonyms, branches of use, origin of terms ( GB, USA) and abbreviations, caused nonuniformity of lexicographic database. Great disadvantage was the gradual supplying of English version in 5 parts. Our comments to some mistakes in English spelling and duplicate terms were sent tu Ljubljana. We expect, that the general project manager will send the final version to us and other members for authorization. Mehodology of Czech authors was based on using the existing standardized terminology and existing branch dictionaries. In spite of our critical remarks, we appreciate the activity of the Slovenian National and University Library in preparing multilingual dictionary for smaller European countries. The Ljubljana conference will surely help to further development of this lexicographical work.
