Toronto

Part five - animals

Tuesday June 22nd - Saturday June 26th 1999

Although a major city, Toronto has a considerable number of animals. Perhaps the most common - and a running theme of our travels - are squirrels. However, Toronto squirrels are for the most part black, unlike ones we've seen so far, which have either been grey or reddish-brown, and I like squirrels so much that I couldn't resist putting some more pictures of them here.

Down at the waterfront, there are many aquatic birds, and Veronika and I were particularly taken by those below, who seemed to have provided the inspiration for the "sport" of synchronised swimming with their habit of diving for food, sticking their backsides in the air, and using their legs for balance.

Finally in this section, a mystery of sorts - an intriguing sculpture(s) in downtown Toronto. I relly enjoyed it(them), although neither Veronika nor I could figure out what animal was being represented. Any suggestions are welcome.
