Danes v času vizualne kulture je naša vsakdanjost prežeta
z modnimi podobami, ki nam narekujejo naš zunanji videz. Kultura
oblačenja in z njo povezano dojemanje telesa se venomer spreminjata
ob diktatu družbene sprejemljivosti. Avtorici Almira Sadar
in Marija Jenko Starič pri svojem projektu Tekstilna telesa
2 razkrivata odnos do kulture oblačenja. Njuno raziskovanje
telesa izhaja iz kritične predpostavke o današnjih imperativih
družbeno sprejemljivih načinih obnašanja in oblačenja. Dandanes
telo dojemamo kot del posameznikove identitete. Po eni strani
smo telo, po drugi strani z njim razpolagamo. Telo postaja
potrošniško blago, s katerim je prežeta sodobna množična kultura.
Denimo oglaševalska industrija in vizualna kultura, kjer je
lepo, vitko in privlačno telo središčna točka posameznikove
pozornosti.
Vertikalno postavljene lupine tekstilnih teles avtoric Almire
Sadar in Marije Jenko Starič, ki visijo z nitk visokega stolpičastega
stropa galerije ustvarjajo videz lebdečih subjektov, ki skozi
bogato pripovednost oblik transformirajo telesa. Lupina sestavljena
iz eksperimentalnih tekstilnih materialov potiskana z grafičnimi
linijami, ki ob gubanju tekstila zamenjujejo smeri v vertikalne,
horizontalne, diagonalne in ukrivljene dimenzije sooblikujejo
strukturo tekstila. Njihova podoba nas vznemirja, ko oko potuje
ob ukrivljenih vrtinčastih linijah, v njih odkrivamo nekaj
nenavadnega in vznemirjajočega. Rustikalnost in temačnost
grajskega prostora poudari bogatost oblik, medtem ko bela
barva materiala ter kontrastni vzorci grafitne in rjave barve
stopnjuje dialog med prostorom in tekstilnimi telesi. Avtorici
sta si namenoma izbrali vlakneni material, ki ga svojsko oblikujeta
v zaključene celote, ki tako postajajo unikatne samostojne
podobe in s tem umetnine. Razstava razgalja temeljni jezik
ustvarjalne konceptualizacije ter povezani pogled v oblikovanju
tekstila in tekstilnega vzorca. Ta dela, kljub temu, da nosijo
ime "tekstili", daleč presegajo pojem tako imenovanega
unikatnega tekstilnega oblikovanja, katerega zunanja pojavna
oblika se zvečine manifestira v ročno poslikanih kosih tkanine.

Text:
In today's times of visual culture our ordinary lives are
infused with fashion images that dictate our external appearance.
The culture of clothing, and the understanding of the body
invariably connected to it, are in perpetual change according
to the command of what is deemed socially acceptable. In their
project Textile Bodies 2, the artists Almira Sadar and Marija
Jenko Starič lay bare this relationship towards the culture
of dressing. Their exploration of the body originates from
the critical supposition of today's imperatives of socially
acceptable ways of behaving and dressing. Nowadays we perceive
the body as a part of the individual's identity. On one hand
we are a body, on the other hand the body is something to
be used at our disposal. The body is becoming a commodity
which infuses contemporary mass culture. Let's say, like in
the advertising industry, or within visual culture where a
beautiful, slim and attractive body acts as a pivotal point
of the individual's attention.
The artists' vertically placed shells of textile bodies suspended
by threads from the soaring tower-like gallery create an image
of apparently levitating subjects that transform the bodies
through a rich narration of shapes. The shell, made up from
experimental textile material printed with graphic forms that
through movement of the textile interchange the vertical,
horizontal, diagonal directions into crooked dimensions, partake
in building up the structure of the textiles. Their image,
when the eye travels across the crooked, circular forms is
disturbing; in them, we discover something extraordinary and
disquieting. The rustic nature and the darkness of the gallery
space emphasise the richness of shape, while the white colour
of the fabric and the contrasting graphite and brown hued
patterns intensify the dialogue between the space and the
textile bodies. The artists Almira Sadar and Marija Jenko
Starič have purposefully chosen a fibrous material, which
they shape in their original ways into finished wholes that
in such a way become unique, independent images and thus works
of art. The exhibition exposes the fundamental language of
creative conceptualisation and the related gaze in the design
of textiles and textile patterns. These works, despite carrying
the label of "textiles", go well beyond the notion
of so-called unique textile design whose external form is
mainly manifested as hand painted pieces of fabric.
