Magičnost slikarske pripovedi arhitektke in slikarke
Marjete Cvetko
Bogato pripovedno slikarstvo Marjete Cvetko se v velikih
formatih v tehniki tempere na papirju vse bolj oddaljuje
od ilustrativnosti in postaja poleg te svoboden izraz slikarkinih,
kakor v sanjah oziroma v domišliji vzniklih podob. V njih
se oblikovalska dognanost in estetskost slik povezujeta v
gledališke scene dramatičnih pravljičnih razsežnosti. Z nizanjem
prizorov v več pasovih, s ploskovito obravnavo vsega upodobljenega,
z ritmičnim menjavanjem statičnosti in dinamičnosti, s kontrastiranjem
velikega in majhnega in z zgovorno belino stavb slikarka
sugestivno posreduje svet, ujet v magičnost, ki jo še stopnjujejo
skupine figur - lutk in krošnje dreves, prekrite z dekorativnimi
cvetličnimi vzorci, kakršne najdemo na podobno oblikovanih
krinolinah figur. Barvno intenzivna rdeča, modro-zelena in
rjava ozadja, prekrita zdaj z dramatično učinkujočimi oblaki,
zdaj posuta z zlatim in srebrnim prahom, so v slikah element
“čiste”, bolj ali manj abstraktne likovne govorice. Poetičnost
slikarkinih kompozicij se prepleta s pravljično grozljivostjo,
ki jo še stopnjuje z drevesi, ki rastejo iz “gotskih” stavb,
s plavajočimi ribami na nebu, z okronanimi “princesami” -
polljudmi polživalmi, z zvermi, ki jih slikarkin čopič lahko
spremeni v smešne in igrive, kakor povzete iz ljudske umetnosti
glinenih in lectovih figuric. Pestra simbolna govorica Marjete
Cvetko je preplet iz zgodovine poznanih in njej lastnih simbolov
in znakov. S hkratno decentno rabo različnih slogovnih elementov
dosega avtorsko prepoznaven, kompleksen sodoben likovni izraz,
v enaki meri pripoveden in izrazen, simbolična govorica pa
nudi vsakemu gledalcu možnost lastnega razumevanja, zato
bogastva slikarkinih podob niti ne moremo komentirati. Najbolj
osebno slogovno izhodišče doslej je Marjeta Cvetko odkrila
prav ob poglabljanju v našo staro ljudsko literarno ustvarjalnost
in ob njej združila svoje znanje s področja slikarstva, grafičnega
oblikovanja in arhitekture. Ob tem je očitno, da ji “čista”
likovnost ne zadostuje. Po slednjem sodi avtorica med tiste
likovne ustvarjalce, o katerih je prof. Rudiger Stoye, uvodničar
Annuala 2002 ob svetovni razstavi ilustracij v Bologni zapisal,
da kot ilustratorji bogatijo slikarstvo in mu vračajo vsebinsko
in emocionalno razsežnost.

The Magic in the Painted Narratives of Architect and Painter
Marjeta Cvetko
The rich narrative painting of Marjeta Cvetko, with its
large formats and tempera on paper technique, is increasingly
shifting away from elaborate depictions, and is also becoming
a free expression of the painter’s dreamlike and imaginative
images. In them, the perfection of the design and the aesthetics
of the paintings combine into theatrical scenes of dramatic
fairytale dimensions. By stringing scenes together across
several strips, through a flat rendition of everything represented,
through the rhythmic exchange of the static and the dynamic,
by contrasting the large and the small, and through the expressive
whiteness of buildings, by suggestion the painter mediates
a world caught in magic, further intensified by a group of
figures – puppets and treetops covered in decorative flower
patterns, which we find also on the similarly shaped crinolines
the figures are wearing. The intense colours, red, blue-green
and brown backgrounds, now covered with clouds causing a
dramatic effect, then again strewn with gold and silver dust,
are elements of the “pure”, more or less abstract, fine arts
language of the paintings. The poetry of the painter’s compositions
is intertwined with the fairytale eeriness that she further
heightens with trees growing out of “gothic” buildings, fish
swimming in the sky, crowned “princesses”, half-human half-animal,
and beasts that the painter’s brush can transform into funny
and playful creatures as if taken from the folk art of clay
and gingerbread figurines. The diverse symbolic language
of Marjeta Cvetko is a combination of symbols and signs that
we know from history and of her own. With the simultaneous
but unobtrusive use of various stylistic elements, she produces
recognisable, complex contemporary images, equally narrative
and expressive, while her symbolic language allows every
viewer their own interpretation, which is why we cannot even
comment upon the richness of the painter’s images. Marjeta
Cvetko has discovered her most personal stylistic starting
point so far, precisely in studying Slovenian folk literature,
while combining her knowledge in the fields of painting,
graphic design and architecture. This makes it obvious that
“pure” fine art is not enough for her. In view of this, the
painter is among those creators of fine art of whom Prof
Rudiger Stoye, the editorial writer for Annual 2002, the
catalogue accompanying the international illustrator’s exhibition
in Bologna, wrote that, as illustrators, they enrich painting
and return to it content and emotional dimension.
