Dušan Bavdek was born in Kranj (Slovenia) July, 17, 1971. He studied composition in the class of Professor Alojz Srebotnjak at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and received his diploma in 1994. In 2000 he completed a post-graduate study in composition at the same institution with professors Marijan Gabrijelčič and Danijel Dane Škerl. He studied masterclasses with Professor Janos Vajda and Professor Helmut Lachenmann.

His compositions have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere in the world. He received different national and international acknowledgements and was a jury member of various competitions in Slovenia and abroad. Between 1994 and 2003 he taught music theory at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet . In 2002 he began to teach harmony and solfeggio at the Ljubljana Academy of Music receiving a tenure as Assistant Professor of theoretical subjects in 2003 and a tenure as Assistant Professor of Composition in 2009. He was Secretary General of the ISCM World Music Days -  Slovenia 2003 and acts as Board Member of the European Composers Forum.
